The cement industry as a whole has encountered some changes as they did a switch from oil to coal fuel. The coal flow in this particular silo was very poor and even with air cannons on the conical section. The flow through the hopper was inconsistent and caused significant downtime. After conducting bulk flow solids testing using Jenike shear tester, they showed that TIVAR 88 was an excellent hopper lining material for the coal. After changing the conical section of the hopper to a lined transitional hopper, the site experienced “large operational cost savings and the feeding operation became completely automatic, thereby saving labor costs.Flow stoppages have been eliminated in this service and this has allowed fuel costs to be reduced as gas is no longer needed as a supplemental fuel.”
