Two receiving concrete bunkers were designed to process 1000 tons of coal per hour, however due to flow restrictions the facility was unable to achieve a maximum of 300 tons per hour.  Operators had to essentially rod the material in order to get it to flow especially if it rained.  To eliminate the adhesion, 0.5 inch thick TIVAR 88 antistatic was used to line the hopper and was directly fastened to the concrete using a concrete expansion bolt (see figure).  The antistatic version was chosen as the liners were constantly exposed to direct sunlight and this grade offered excellent protection from ultraviolet radiation.  The low surface friction of the TIVAR 88 improved the flowability in the bunkers and eliminated the need for operators rodding the material and achieving the design rates for the system.  Another success story for a TIVAR lined hopper!
