How do I determine the length of of TIVAR capped bolt that I require for my application?

These are common questions that are asked on any bolt purchase!  Accidentally buying ones that are too short can impact the installation and could cause significant issues with your project.  To determine the information required for the bolt size, the following information is required:

  1. Bolt grip thickness on the TIVAR liner
  2. Substrate thickness
  3. Add 0.75″ for (1/4″-20 bolts) and 1″ for (3/8″-16 bolts)

Example:

I am doing an install of a TIVAR 88 liner that is 0.5″ thick and will be installed on top of a 0.25″ carbon steel substrate.

  1. 0.150″  (grip thickness)
  2. 0.25″   (substrate thickness)
  3. 0.75″
  4. Estimated Theoretical Bolt Length: 1.15″

Based on the “Theoretical Bolt Length”, we would round up to the nearest common length which would be 1.25″ TIVAR capped elevator bolt.
