The Chunnel (Channel Tunnel) is a rail connection between Folkstone, UK and Coquelles, France. It is a marvel of engineering as it stretches 51 km (32 miles) from British to the French entrance. During the early construction days, the team experienced significant delays in unloading the diggings from railcars. The diggings were extremely sticky and were not discharging even when the railcar was tilted sideways! As you can imagine, this impacted productivity and the downtime not only the schedule but the costs.
The TIVAR surface provided the right coefficient of friction along with not absorbing any water which allowed the rail cars to easily discharge the product from the rail car. This allowed the construction team to increase productivity and assist on getting the schedule back on track!
